Science Policy

The Biochemical Society champions the molecular biosciences by identifying and acting on key science policy issues. We aim to ensure that the views of our membership are channelled to the appropriate policy-makers. Our activities are informed by our Policy Advisory Panel our Policy Network, and our members. Read on to find out more about our science policy initiatives.

Position Statements

We issue a number of position statements on issues relevant to biochemistry and science in general alongside

The Royal Society of Biology who also publish position statements which may be of interest.

Science in the EU

In the wake of the EU referendum, the Biochemical Society is keen to ensure that the UK molecular bioscience community maintains its high international profile and that our open approach to trans-national collaborative opportunities remains clear.

Supporting Industry

We aim to address issues of relevance to the industrial bioscience community in the UK. A current particular area of focus for us is the changing drug discovery landscape, which we are looking at via our membership of the Drug Discovery Pathways Group.

Diversity, Equality and Inclusion

The Biochemical Society is committed to ensuring equal opportunities in the molecular biosciences. We believe that a lack of diversity across the scientific community represents a loss of potential talent to the UK.

Informing Government

Politicians, government departments and international organisations play a key role in the science sector. We work to ensure key policymakers are aware of the views and concerns of our membership.
